Attended by celebs such as Shabana Azmi, Mrunal Thakur, Sheebha Chaddha, Piyush Mishra, and Saiyami Kher, the screening was a star-studded affair that captivated audiences with its portrayal of Punjab‘s original rockstar, Amar Singh Chamkila, and his meteoric rise to fame despite enduring poverty.
Despite initial seating challenges, Imtiaz Ali eventually found his place among the audience, engrossed in the cinematic journey unfolding on screen. Reflecting on the overwhelming turnout, he expressed his gratitude and admiration for the masses that turned out in full force to honor Chamkila’s legacy.
Following the screening, Imtiaz Ali took to the stage, visibly moved, to engage in a heartfelt discussion about the film. Speaking to the audience, Imtiaz Ali disclosed, “Rarely does a filmmaker have the opportunity to view their creation… Today, I had the privilege of watching the entire film, an occurrence that has only happened once before in my life.” Continuing, he reflected, “While watching the film, my thoughts were constantly drawn to Chamkila… Before the screening, as we observed the overwhelming turnout, surpassing the venue’s capacity, I couldn’t help but wonder why it wouldn’t happen?”
Starring Parineeti Chopra as Amarjot Kaur, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ is set to make its debut on OTT on April 12.
