As filmmaker Imtiaz Ali prepares for the release of his upcoming film Amar Singh Chamkila starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead, he recently chose his favourite performances of Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor Khan from his iconic films.
In an interview with Connect FM Canada, one of the challenging questions posed to Imtiaz was choosing between two of his iconic films, Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal, as well as between actors Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone as better performers.
When asked to compare Kareena’s performance in Jab We Met with Deepika’s in Cocktail, Imtiaz admitted the difficulty but leaned towards Kareena, citing his directorial involvement in the film. Similarly, he favored Jab We Met over Cocktail as a better film and chose Gulzar over Javed Akhtar as a better lyricist.

Regarding his personal connection to his films, Imtiaz expressed that Jab We Met holds a special place in his heart, stating, “It’s more mine.” He also revealed a preference for outdoor shoots and night shoots over indoor and morning shoots.
Speaking about his upcoming project Amar Singh Chamkila, Imtiaz praised Diljit’s contribution to the film. Initially hesitant about casting Diljit, Imtiaz admitted, “I thought that Diljit won’t be able to do the film so I didn’t approach him in the beginning.” However, upon further discussions, Imtiaz realized Diljit’s indispensable role in the film’s success, emphasizing, “I couldn’t have made the film without Diljit.”
