Imtiaz Ali shares an intriguing anecdote about Jab We Met song Mauja Hi Mauja: ‘A lot of people didn’t understand the lyrics’ | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, who is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Amar Singh Chamkila starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, recently shared an intriguing anecdote about his iconic film Jab We Met‘s popular song, Mauja Hi Mauja.
In a conversation with Anubhav Singh Bassi, Imtiaz disclosed that many had doubts about the song’s potential due to their limited understanding of Punjabi.However, driven by his own fondness for the song and its catchy vibe, Imtiaz remained confident in its success.
“When we were composing the song Mauja Hi Mauja, at that time nobody was able to understand anything, but because Irshad Kamil is from Punjab, he said that Mauja Hi Mauja would be fun,” Imtiaz shared during the conversation.

He revealed how the sound and feel of the song resonated with them, even if some didn’t immediately grasp its meaning. Despite initial skepticism from some quarters, the song’s infectious energy and appeal won over audiences.
“A lot of people said that they are not able to understand a single word of it. ‘What is he saying? Why is he saying this? It’s not a Punjabi film.’ But we liked it, and the song was loved by people,” Imtiaz stated.

The music of Jab We Met was composed by Pritam, with lyrics penned by Irshad Kamil. This successful collaboration continued as Irshad Kamil worked with Imtiaz again for their upcoming film Amar Singh Chamkila. Mauja Hi Mauja was sung by Mika Singh, and it featured Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
