Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi was in the news on Thursday after sacking a state minister.

The minister was sacked two days back without consulting the CM
Governor Ravi hit the headlines on Thursday when he sacked minister Senthil Balaji, who was jailed on charges of cash-for-job scam. But after five hours he had withdrawn the decision. It is being said that the Governor did not even consult CM MK Stalin to sack Senthil.

Senthil is facing corruption charges. He was arrested by the ED on 14 June. Later, the court sent Balaji to judicial custody till July 12.

In a press release issued from the Raj Bhavan, it has been said that Minister V Senthil Balaji is facing criminal cases in several serious cases of corruption including taking money for jobs and money laundering.

Misusing his position as a minister, he is obstructing the investigation and obstructing the course of law. Senthil is currently lodged in jail under judicial custody. Police investigation is going on against him in some other criminal cases under Anti Corruption Act and IPC.

There are reasonable apprehensions that the continuance of V Senthil Balaji in the Council of Ministers would prejudice the process of law including fair investigation. This can break the constitutional system in the state. Under these circumstances, the Governor has dismissed Senthil Balaji from the Council of Ministers with immediate effect.

Congress asked the President to dismiss the governor

Following the controversy over the sacking of the minister, Congress leader Manish Tewari suggested that the President should remove the Governor of Tamil Nadu. Tiwari said that even a lawyer would not advise a governor to sack a minister until the charges against him were proved.
