India-malaysia Joint Military Drills Conclude In Meghalaya | Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati: A major joint exercise between Indian and Malaysian armies to increase inter-operability between personnel of both forces and strengthen global security came to an end at the Umroi joint training node in Meghalaya on Saturday.
At the culmination ceremony, Brigadier Mayank Vaid said apart from providing a platform for showcasing the might of the Indian army, this exercise also exemplifies the defence cooperation between the armies of India and Malaysia.“The exercise has enhanced the level of defence cooperation between the armies of India and Malaysia, fostering the bilateral relations between the two nations,” Vaid added.
The exercise that started on October 23 was conducted between a battalion of the Indian army’s Rajput Regiment and the 5th Royal Battalion of the Malaysian Army. A total of 120 soldiers from both sides took part in the two-week-long exercise. During the exercise, the soldiers rehearsed the employment of joint forces in the jungle, semi-urban and urban environments. The soldiers also performed night patrolling in dense forest areas. The Malaysian Army also gave a demonstration on jungle survival drills.
“The inter-operability and the understanding of military operation in jungle terrain has been achieved. Also, the gap between the strategies and tactics on the ground has now been bridged,” said commanding officer K K Bajpai. He added that the training was focused primarily on a high degree of physical fitness, tactical drills and sharing of best practices with each other.
The two-week-long exercise was conducted in three phases — a 3-day-long planning phase, eight days of field training and 48 hours of validation exercise where senior officials of both armies assessed the soldiers.
In the culmination ceremony, various arms and machinery used by both armies were showcased and a mock counter-insurgency drill was conducted by the soldiers.

The United Nations rights office has expressed concern over the “alarming” conditions in the occupied West Bank, saying that Israeli forces are increasingly using military tactics and weapons in law enforcement operations. At least 132 Palestinians, including 41 children, have been killed in the West Bank, with the majority of them by Israeli forces. The office also highlighted the escalating settler violence against Palestinian inhabitants and the collaboration between armed settlers and Israeli forces. The worsening situation in the West Bank has raised fears of a wider conflict.
