While the stage is set for TMC’s rally in Kolkata’s Dharmatala, the BJP has planned a counter-protest on the same day to attack the state government over the panchayat poll violence.
On Wednesday, BJP’s Sukanto Majumdar said: “They have looted votes in the panchayat elections. This time, we all should go and ‘gherao’ the BDO office as the administration has manipulated the results.’
Hitting back at the BJP, senior TMC leader and MP Shantanu Sen said, “We wait for this day as Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee give us the mantra to work together for the whole year.” BJP is copying it. Do they have enough people to ‘gherao’ the BDO office? They have failed miserably and are now copying us. It will have no effect.”

TMC sources said Banerjee would set the agenda for 2024 by attacking the Center on issues ranging from delay in funds for Bengal to “step-motherly treatment” of the Center towards the state. Party insiders believe that this stand has helped TMC in rural elections. Abhishek Banerjee is expected to announce the date when he will take the rural locals of Bengal to Delhi to demand funds for the state. Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee may target 42 seats for 2024.

She will also instruct the cadre to inform people about state government schemes such as ‘Loki Bhandar’ (where women get Rs 500 monthly) as well as the Kanyashree scheme.
