‘India, US working together to eliminate disruptions in clean energy supply chain’

New Delhi: India and the US are working together to ensure that there is no disruption to the global clean energy supply chain, said Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, Secretary, Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Addressing the US-India Energy Summit: ‘Partnership for a Sustainable Future’, the official said that according to the recently announced US-India New and Emerging Renewable Energy Technologies Action Platform on Green Hydrogen, the cost of green hydrogen production has been reduced. will help reduce it. strategies of both countries.

“We are working together to eliminate the risk of disruption, recognizing the importance of diverse and resilient clean energy supply chains to the energy transition,” he added.

The statement assumes significance as both countries seek to reduce their dependence on clean tech supplies from China and develop their domestic industries. China is a major supplier of solar modules and cells and a key player in the solar module ecosystem. Over the past few years, amid a global shortage of modules, many countries including India and the US are looking to reduce their dependence on Chinese supplies and boost their domestic manufacturing of solar modules and other related products.

The Center has also launched a production-linked incentive scheme to support solar module manufacturing in the country and imposed a hefty customs duty of 40% on module imports to curb cheap imports from China.

Bhalla further said that India and the US are committed to developing and supporting a global hydrogen ecosystem to make hydrogen affordable and low-carbon globally. He said India and the US are working towards rapidly deploying clean energy on a large scale, creating economic prosperity and helping achieve global climate goals.

“We will also cooperate on our goals related to reducing the cost of green energy as part of our respective hydrogen missions and the goals we have in place.”

On India’s growth in the renewable energy sector, he said the country currently has 173 GW of installed RE capacity and another 120 GW is under various stages of implementation.
