GORAKHPUR: Cracking down on encephalitis, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday urged health officials and residents of eastern UP to intensify their sustained effort against the “killer of the east” and rest only after eliminating it.
“Due to the coordinated efforts of the government, civil society and various departments, the number of deaths due to encephalitis has come down by 95%. However, the fight is on and steps must be taken to achieve the remaining 5%. Citing the example of encephalitis as a model of disease prevention and control, the CM said: “Public health is not just about treatment facilities. Recalling the encephalitis crisis that came with the rainy season, the Chief Minister said: “Five years ago, the cases of serious illness and deaths due to encephalitis used to increase in July. The CM also said that a culture of preventive health practices has been created and will be carried forward by the health and wellness centres.
“Some areas of the state are affected by encephalitis and some are affected by malaria, dengue, chikungunya or kala-azar. With these campaigns and collective efforts, we have gradually brought all the diseases under control,” he said.
Under Dastak, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, employees of various departments and organizations will go door-to-door for awareness. If anyone is found sick, they will make arrangements for treatment and provide a medical kit. The CM also thanked PM Narendra Modi for his vision of a healthy India and a clean India.
“PM aims to make India TB free by 2025. Measures to reach that goal include free treatment of TB patients, reporting such cases to the administration and funding for adoption of such patients.
