IPL 2023: After Rishabh Pant’s tragic accident on December 30, 2022, Delhi Capitals are in dire need of some major changes. As of now, Pant’s participation in the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is doubtful. The Delhi Capitals franchise is led by former Australian captain Ricky Ponting who has been the head coach for quite some time now. It is not only Ponting who will have the reigns of Delhi Capitals this time around. Former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Sourav Ganguly will also join Ponting.

Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly will return to the IPL as director of cricket with Delhi Capitals during the upcoming edition starting in April, sources have confirmed. The former India skipper, who resigned as BCCI president in October, will also oversee all cricket verticals of the franchise along with ILT20 team Dubai Capitals and SA T230 league side Pretoria Capitals.

Sources close to the Delhi Capitals franchise said:

Yes, Sourav will make a comeback with Delhi Capitals from this year. Discussions and modalities are over. He has worked with the franchise, shared a good comfort level with the owners and if he would have worked in the IPL, it would have always been with DC.

Sourav Ganguly was the mentor of Delhi Capitals during his stint with the franchise in 2019. It is understood that both head coach Ricky Ponting and Ganguly had inputs in the recent Delhi Capitals auction. With Shreyas Iyer as the captain in 2019, Delhi Capitals did very well under Ganguly. Last year, former World Cup-winning player Roger Binny was made the BCCI president in place of Sourav Ganguly.
