Varanasi: The International Rice Research Institute South Asia Regional Center (ISARC) showcased its food products made from traditional varieties of rice such as Kalanamak rice cookies, rice muesli, puffed rice at a three-day event organized here. Banaras Hindu University From 16 to 18 June. The event was organized by the Indian Farmers Union to create awareness among farmers about new innovations in agriculture.
ISARC put up a stall in the exhibition, where farmers participating in the event were provided with information related to improved farming, state-of-the-art technology and seed protection. ISARC scientists informed the farmers about new research related to paddy cultivation. Food products made from traditional rice varieties were the center of attraction among the farmers during the programme.
ISARC Director Sudhanshu Singh said that ISARC research is working towards reducing the environmental footprint or impact with food and nutrition security. The institute is also active in enhancing the production of rice based food system, skill development and development of rice based value added products.
Dinesh K Kulkarni Akhil Bhartiya Kisan Sangh and others visited the stall of ISARC. ISARC Director gave detailed information about the work being done by the institute. Appreciating the cookies made from Kalanamak rice, Kulkarni said, “ISARC is definitely doing a commendable job in rice research and development. Especially the development of value added products made from rice will open up new possibilities for the farmers.
