Income Tax officials on Friday reached Malayalam star Mohanlal’s apartment in Kochi’s Kudanoor to record his statement in the case of producer Antony Perumbavoor. Income Tax Department officials asked the star to disclose his business deals and transactions with producer Antony Perumbavoor.

The IT department is probing irregularities in income tax return filing by producer Antony Perumbavoor. Mohanlal was being probed after IT officials carried out searches at the filmmaker’s residence in December 2022 for possible tax evasion, unauthorized cash transfers and investments in real estate. The houses and offices of producers Antony Perumbavoor, Anto Joseph and Listin Stephen were searched by the IT department.

As per reports, the officials questioned the actor about his business dealings with Perumbavoor, who has produced several films featuring the actor in lead roles under the banner of Ashirwad Cinemas. They also wanted information about the foreign investments of the actor. The department had earlier found that the investments and income of the film stars under probe did not match with their declared income records.

Mohanlal is gearing up for his directorial venture Burroughs: Guardian of Treasures – 3D. He has collaborated with South African music director Mark Milan, who has worked on Hollywood films including Deep Blue Sea 3, Traitor and Eye in the Sky. Mohanlal announced the development on Twitter, “Team Burroughs welcomes musical genius Mr. Mark Killian onboard!”

In March 2022, Mammootty, Priyadarshan, Fazil, Prithviraj and other noted actors of Malayalam cinema attended the launch of Mohanlal’s directorial debut Baroj. The fantasy film Baroj, also produced by Mohanlal, will be shown in 3D. Burroughs’ screenplay is written by Jijo Punnooj, best known for the film My Dear Kuttichathan. The teaser of the film reveals that the film will be made on a big budget.

Apart from Mohanlal, the film also stars Maya, Sara Vega, Guru Somasundaram, Tuhin Menon, Komal Sharma and Padmavati Rao. The Barrows team also includes editor A Sreekar Prasad and cinematographer Santosh Sivan.
