He also targeted the Congress over the 10 guarantees that the party had promised to the people in the assembly elections.

Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur on Tuesday criticized the Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu-led government for “creating financial insecurity” in the state. The BJP leader criticized the Congress leader for drawing a comparison with the economic situation in the hill state. Sri Lanka drowned in debt.

“The Chief Minister comparing the state’s financial condition with that of Sri Lanka is unfortunate. This statement coming from the CM instills a sense of fear among the people,” Thakur said and alleged that the government has failed to release the last installment of Rs 50 lakh to the MLAs as part of their annual fund.

The installment was to be released in January, but has not happened yet. The file is yet to come back from the chief minister’s office,” Thakur claimed.

Thakur also accused the government of misleading people about the loans taken by the previous government. He said, “When our government took over, the debt was already Rs 50,000 crore. The Congress governments in the state had taken more loans than the BJP governments.

He further said that the Sukhu government has become a “government of waiting”. “OPS workers are waiting for OPS notification, women are waiting for Rs 1,500, people are waiting for 300 free units of electricity,” he said.

He also pulled up the Congress over 10 guarantees that the party had promised to the people in the run up to the assembly polls. “The chief minister is saying that he will need four years to improve the financial situation. But going by the promises he has made, it will take 40 years to rectify the situation.”

Accusing the government of mishandling the cement plant issue, Thakur claimed that the state government had suffered a loss of Rs 150 crore due to the closure of the plant. “The government is still unable to work out a plan to break the impasse,” he said.
