These days the Jain Dadabari of Balaghat has become a center of curiosity not only for the Jain community but for all. Here Jain sage Shri Viragmuni Ji (46) is on fast. That too not for a few days, but for the whole 171 days. Wednesday is the 172nd day, but keeping in mind the divine propriety, he has decided to stop fasting on Wednesday and perform Parana. This divine dignity is that Lord Mahavir Swami observed fasts for 178 days during his lifetime. Fasting for more days than this is not described in Jain society.

A research team of doctors has examined the health of Muni Shri Viragmuni ji and expressed surprise to see him completely fit. The team will give this report to WHO.

Let’s tell in detail the whole story of such a long fast ‘after two and a half thousand years’

On January 15, 2023, Jain sage Shri Viragmuni ji from Chandrapur, Maharashtra had given up diet. In the words of Muni Shri himself-‘ The power of the soul is infinite. With this fast, the young generation and the whole world will be able to know how vast this power is. Fasting is only for the manifestation of this power. This austerity has become possible with the energy of yoga, meditation, pranayama, sun and water.

Muni Shree’s fast completed 171 days on Tuesday and Wednesday is the 172nd day. Shree Parshwanath Jain Shwetambar Mandir Trust, Managing Trustee Ajay Lunia told that only those families who want to do sacrifice, penance, festival and festival will get the benefit of long penance tradition of 171 fasting. Whichever family wants to avail this benefit by writing this feeling in a slip, had to submit it to the Chaturmas committee at Shri Jinkushal Suri Dadabari temple by 11 pm on Tuesday night. Gurudev will come to the lucky person’s place for Parana.

A research team of three doctors from Baroda’s Sumandeep Vidyapeeth University reached Balaghat on Tuesday. Dr. Ashish Shah, Dr. Ghanshyam from Baroda and Dr. DP Bisen from Durg were included in the team. He examined Muni Shree’s health and tried to find out what effect such a long fast had on his body. Dr. Shah told that this research is also important because generally it is almost impossible to survive healthy after fasting for so many days by drinking only hot water without food.

Dr. Shah says that how this happened will be known only after examining the analysis report, but at present Gurudev is physically normal. Even without eating anything, the energy level in them is fully maintained. We were both happy and surprised to see this.

Padyatra of three states only during fasting

On June 15, 2023, Muni Shri Viragmuni ji, who came out of Chandrapur, reached Chhattisgarh with a pledge to remain destitute. Traveled here from Rajnandgaon, Durg, Raipur, Khairagarh to Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh. During this, he has traveled a total distance of about 400 km.

routine and going himself to take food for the gurus and companions

Muni Shree’s routine starts from 3 in the morning, which continues till night rest. During this, he himself goes to Upadhyay in the morning, discourse, study in the afternoon, to take food for the gurus and fellow small saints. Their mobility continues till rest. The last drop of hot water taken before the sun sets is food. After that don’t even take hot water.

The entire family of Muni Shree is a monk.

From Manoj Daklia, a seeker of Jain society, to becoming Muni Shri Viragmuni Ji Maharaj Saheb, his whole life is inspirational and a guide. Manoj Daklia, a resident of Pali, Rajasthan, along with his entire family, had taken initiation from Shri Kushalmuniji Maharaj Saheb on June 21, 2014 at Navrangpur Dadawadi, Ahmedabad. Wife Sushravika Monika ji at present Sadhvi Shri Viratiyasashree ji, son Bhavya at present Muni Shri Bhavyamuni, daughter Kumari Khushi at present Shri Vinayamrayashashree ji have also taken Diksha. Son Muni Shri Bhavyamuni is with him. It is said that the whole family took a resolution to walk on the path of Lord Mahavir, renouncing the illusion of crores.

Muni Shree has also done a padyatra of about 400 kms during the fast.

The body became weak but the brightness of the face increased.

Muni Shree told that after taking food for the last time on January 14, 2023, he has not taken even a grain of food since 171 days. Take only half a liter of hot water daily, that too 48 minutes after sunrise and before sunset.

Far from doing this kind of austerity for a common man, one gets goosebumps even thinking that how a saint can be so ‘recluse’ leaving the attachment of taste. After such a long fast, his body seems weak, but the brightness of his face has increased.

In this case, the death of a person can happen at different times.

Dr. Manuj Sharma, associate professor of the Department of Endocrinology at Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, told that a person starts feeling very weak in 30 days only on water without taking food. There is a possibility of his death in 45 to 70 days. Death can happen at different times in every person. It depends on how old the person is, when the person stopped eating, what was the weight at that time. How much water are you taking? How much is the hydration level maintained? Females are able to survive more. Children are the most easily affected.

There is a counter regulatory system inside our body. Counter regulation means that whenever there is a time of calamity on the body, suppose a person is ill and he is unable to get food, for some reason there is a system of glucose supply inside our body. There are hormones and enzymes in our body whose job is to keep the supply of glucose going in such a situation. Even if food is not available. Our stores which are usually in the form of muscles get converted into proteins. It converts into carbohydrates. God has given this task of making glucose to the kidney and liver.

The kidneys and liver continue to supply glucose by eliminating our fats and proteins. When the supply of glucose from this process stops, the process of gluconeogenesis starts. This also maintains the supply of glucose, but even in this way a person can live only for one and a half to two months.
