The Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat will go to polls on Wednesday. Voters of nine assembly constituencies will be able to vote at 1972 centers from 7 am to 6.30 pm. Over 16 lakh voters will decide the fate of 19 candidates. The Jalandhar Lok Sabha (reserved) seat fell vacant after the death of Congress MP Santokh Singh Chowdhary. This time the contest here is four-cornered.

AAP has fielded former MLA Rinku, who had joined the party a few days ago after leaving the Congress. The Congress has reposed faith in Karmjeet Kaur, wife of Santokh Singh Chowdhary. BJP has given ticket to Inderbir Singh Atwal, son of former Speaker of Punjab Legislative Assembly Charanjit Singh Atwal.

Atwal has come to BJP from SAD. SAD has fielded its two-time MLA from Banga seat, Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi, who is a doctor by profession. The SAD candidate has the support of its ally Bahujan Samaj Party. The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) led by Simranjit Singh Mann has fielded Gurjant Singh.
