Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal, son of former deputy speaker of Lok Sabha Charanjit Singh Atwal, will be the BJP candidate in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll. The BJP announced his name late on Wednesday night. Atwal had joined BJP only three days ago. He has been an MLA from the Shiromani Akali Dal and belongs to a Valmiki religious Sikh family.

Through them the party is preparing to enter the rural areas. Inder Iqbal Atwal’s father Charanjit Singh Atwal contested the Lok Sabha elections from Jalandhar in 2019, when he lost to Chaudhary Santokh Singh of Congress by 19,000 votes.

Banga MLA Dr. Sukhwinder Sukhi will be Akali-BSP candidate, Sukhbir Badal announced the name

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) alliance has announced its candidate on Tuesday. The Akali Dal has nominated Dr. Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi, MLA from Banga. Despite the wave against SAD, Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi has won the 2017 and 2022 assembly elections. Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal has announced this.

In January this year, Congress MP from Jalandhar Santokh Singh Chowdhary had passed away during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Voting will be held on May 10 for the seat vacated by his death. And the results will come on May 13. Aam Aadmi Party and Congress have already announced their candidates. Karamjit Kaur, wife of late Santokh Chowdhary from Congress and former MLA Sushil Kumar Rinku from AAP will be in the fray.

In a press conference in Jalandhar on Tuesday, Sukhbir Badal announced the name of Sukhi. During this, former MLA Pawan Kumar Tinu, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, former Rajya Sabha member Balwinder Singh Bhundad, BSP State President Jasveer Singh Gadhi, former Rajya Sabha member Avtar Singh Karimpuri, senior BSP leader Balwinder Kumar were present.

Who is Dr. Sukhi

The family of Dr. Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi has been associated with the BSP. Sukhi contested the 2009 election on a BSP ticket. Later, he left the BSP and joined the Akali Dal. In 2017, Akali Dal made him a candidate and he won from Banga assembly constituency. However, there was a wave going on in the state against the Akali Dal-BJP alliance. In 2022, only three MLAs of Akali Dal won the elections in Punjab. One of these names is of Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi. Sukhi has won for the second time from Banga assembly.

Tinu was asking for ticket, got a shock

Pawan Kumar Tinu, a two-time MLA from Akali Dal, was seeking ticket, but on this a factionalism was formed within the Akali Dal. Later, there was a discussion on re-inducting former minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur, who had left the Akali Dal, to contest the elections, then former minister Bikram Majithia stood firm on his name. That’s why Sukhbir Badal put an end to the factionalism by announcing the name of the MLA from Banga.

SAD Amritsar also declared candidate

SAD Amritsar President Simranjit Singh Mann has announced his candidate. He said that Gurjant Singh Kattu will be the candidate. Apart from this, he said that he would himself go and meet the Sikhs of Punjab lodged in Dibrugarh Jail in Assam. He said that it is wrong to file cases against the Sikh youth of Punjab and lock them in jails of other states. He said that he would soon inform the Chief Minister of Assam about the whole matter. He said that Adani Group has done a loss to the country. PM Modi should take strict action regarding this.
