Jamshedpur : The Jamshedpur The Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has started a campaign to clean the city’s drains ahead of the onset of monsoon next month.
The cleanliness drive started on Thursday. Around 38 major drains located in eastern and western parts of Jamshedpur have been identified with JNAC command area for cleaning,” JNAC Special Officer Sanjay Kumar Said.
A total of 24 drains will be cleaned by JNAC, while the rest will be taken up by Tata Steel Urban Infrastructure Services Limited (TSUISL) in its command area.
A team of 30 sanitation workers will clean the drains under the supervision of a five-member supervision committee.
Significantly, more than 150 small and medium sized drains are connected to major drains within the urban area.
The objective of the campaign is to address the recurring problem of water logging due to clogging of drains in the low-lying residential and market areas of Kusum Nagar. Nirmal NagarBage basti in Kadma, Prem NagarJojobera East Plant basti in Jemco, Telco, Bagun Nagar, Gwalpara in Baridih, Devnagar, Subhash Ashram, Shiv Bagan, Ramdin Plantation and Mathura Bagan in Golmuri.
Kumar said TSUISL will carry out cleanliness drives at Ashiana Garden, Sonari, Circuit House area in Bistupur, Refugee Colony in Sakchi, Anilsurpath in Kadma and other places in the company’s command area.
Apart from this, the monitoring team will start the repair work by removing the sludge from the drains.
