An FIR has been registered against a person for posting objectionable messages against a particular community on social media during the violence that broke out in Jamshedpur over the alleged desecration of a religious flag.

A case has been registered against the accused on the instructions of East Singhbhum District Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav. An official statement said that the accused had targeted a particular religion and community by posting messages on the Facebook account. Police had received a complaint about this. Police said that a report has been registered against the accused and the accused will be arrested soon.

District administration’s eye on social media

The official statement said that the district administration is monitoring social media and urging people not to post/share any sensitive video, photo or message on social media. A total of 67 people have been arrested so far in connection with the violence between two groups of two different communities in Shastri Nagar area on Sunday, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Kamal Kishore said.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad demands strict action against the culprits

Police had said on Monday that BJP leader Abhay Singh was also among those arrested. Meanwhile, the Jharkhand unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Tuesday demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident and strict action against the guilty. The demand was made after a delegation led by VHP secretary Virender Sahu met Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan in Ranchi, the organization said in a release.

Violent clashes broke out between two groups on March 31 and April 9 over the alleged desecration of a religious flag in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur. On March 31, there was a lot of violence on Ram Navami. There was a lot of stone pelting on Ram Navami in Haldipokhar, Jamshedpur. People were taking out a Ram Navami procession. When the procession reached Jugsalai, some protesting people started pelting stones at the procession. Enraged by this incident, people started reciting Hanuman Chalisa in Bata Chowk. During the violent clash in Shastri Nagar, miscreants pelted stones. Also, several shops and an auto-rickshaw were set on fire.
