Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday wrote a letter to President Draupadi Murmu regarding the situation in violence-hit Manipur. In the letter, he expressed his anguish over the atrocities on women and urged them to take steps to ensure peace in the northeastern state. Let us tell you that a video about women in Manipur had gone viral in the past, after which the country’s top leaders and common people are also expressing their displeasure on this issue.

He tweeted this information and said that I have written a letter to Honorable President Draupadi Murmu expressing deep sorrow over the violence in Manipur. These are the darkest of times and as fellow citizens, we are all distressed and concerned by this complete loss of human dignity. India stands with Manipur, Manipur should recover and we as a nation should help.

In the letter, CM Soren told the President that the tribals cannot be allowed to be treated in this way in Manipur. Silence in the face of brutality is a terrible crime and therefore I am compelled to write to you today with a heavy heart and deep pain at the ongoing violence in the state of Manipur. Further wrote that Manipur has been burning for more than two months, heart wrenching videos are coming out.

The Jharkhand chief minister also alleged in the letter that the issue was being sidelined by the central government. Attempts are being made to suppress the voice of the media. In this darkest of times of crisis facing Manipur and India, we look to you as the last source of hope and inspiration that can show the light to the people of Manipur and all citizens of India in these difficult times.

Also in the letter, he wrote that as a Chief Minister of Jharkhand and a concerned citizen of this country, I am deeply distressed and concerned about the escalating situation in Manipur, which has already resulted in the loss of hundreds of innocent lives, destruction of property and public infrastructure and sexual exploitation of women, displacement and a serious sense of insecurity among several ethnic groups living in the affected areas. Along with this, he also mentioned the video in the letter and said that a leaked video related to the women of Manipur released on social media two days ago has deeply shaken all of us.

Ethnic clashes have been going on in Manipur since May 3 between the majority Meitei community and the tribal Kukis who occupy the hills. Over 160 people have lost their lives, and several others have been injured since caste violence broke out in the state in early May, after a ‘tribal solidarity march’ was organized in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community’s demand for Meitei tribe (ST) status.

Jharkhand CM launches scheme to promote skill development

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday launched the government’s ambitious Mukhyamantri Sarathi Yojana (MMSY) for the youth. This scheme will benefit the youth up to the block level. The CM also launched Block Level Institute for Rural Skill Acquisition (BIRSA) in 80 blocks under the SARATHI scheme. Soren said that the objective of the scheme is to make everyone, whether educated or uneducated, skilled so that they can be linked to employment or self-employment.

He said that today many youths are moving towards self-employment leaving private jobs worth lakhs. Earlier he used to be an employee in a company, today he himself is the owner and is giving employment to others as well. Many villages and blocks in our state are in remote areas. That’s why we are opening skill centers in these blocks also. Along with this, you will also be given transport allowance for traveling to and from the skill center. Earlier it was very difficult for the youth of Jharkhand to study abroad. Today we are sending youth from underprivileged classes abroad for higher education with 100% scholarship.
