Medinigar: A court in Jharkhand’s Palamu district on Friday acquitted 12 people accused of killing a couple on charges of practicing black magic four years ago due to lack of evidence.
An FIR was registered against 12 accused, alleging that they had killed Indradev Oraon and his wife Sukni Devi for practicing witchcraft in Sarguja Beheratand village under Manatu police station in 2018.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Pradeep Kumar Choubey, after hearing the arguments of the prosecution and the defence, acquitted 12 persons for want of concrete evidence against them.
Defense counsel Rahul Satyarthi said that during the trial of the case, the accused were given the benefit of doubt after contradictory statements made by the prosecution witnesses.
He said the statements of the witnesses, the post-mortem report and the charge sheet filed by the police in this regard did not match and the accused were acquitted due to lack of concrete evidence.
