Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Manoj Ratan Chauth said that after the confession of the main accused, the police recovered the body of 34-year-old Abhijit Kumar Rai on Wednesday. After this the body was sent to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. Rai was allegedly abducted on June 25 by four miscreants from her clinic for ransom during the treatment of a female patient of Kusumbha village.

The SP said that when his ransom demand was not met immediately, the criminals killed the doctor the same night with sharp weapons and dumped his body in the forest. On the night of 25 June, his brother Milan Rai and the villagers started a search for the doctor and he lodged a missing report at the Katkamdaag police station.

The name of the main accused was mentioned in the complaint as he had threatened the doctor’s family of dire consequences if his demand was not met immediately. The SP said that an SIT was immediately formed and massive raids were conducted to arrest the main accused.

The SP said the police found the doctor’s body after clues given by the accused, who also disclosed the names of his accomplices in the abduction and murder. He said that raids are being conducted to arrest the accomplices of the main accused.

Meanwhile, on receiving information about the incident, hundreds of villagers of Kusumbha village gheraoed the Katkamdag police station and demanded the arrest of the killers. The villagers have demanded immediate arrest of the abductors of the doctor and capital punishment as well as a government job for the doctor’s wife.

The family members of the doctor told that he was living on rent in Upendra Yadav’s house in Kusumbha village for 10 years. Local people accused the police of negligence and said that seeing the dead body, it seems that they had been murdered a day or two ago, but the police could not find it.
