Jamshedpur: Private English medium schools in the Steel City have decided to disperse their students early at noon due to the rising temperatures.
Some schools like Loyola School, Ramakrishna Mission English School, Little Flower School and Hill Top School have already changed their timings from April 4 while the rest are set to implement the new timings from Friday and some from April 8 onwards.Most of the schools shall start their day between 6:30 am to 7 am and will be dispersed by 12 pm. The usual timings of English medium schools were till 1:30 pm.
“The decision has been taken independently by school management keeping in mind the rising temperature. We have decided to change timings from April 8 onwards,” said principal of Dayanand Public School, Swarna Mishra.
CBSE schools, however, have started their academic session this week onwards and many schools shall reopen for the new academic year from April 5. “CBSE schools start their sessions in April and we are also opening today and then we shall take a call. If the district administration doesn’t send an advisory we shall take a call by Monday,” said principal of SDSM School of Excellence, Moushumi Das.
On Thursday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 42.0 degrees Celsius while minimum temperature was recorded at 23.6 degrees Celsius with a maximum relative humidity of 73%. Chairman of Private School and Children Welfare Association (PASWA), Alok Dubey, said, “Several parents have approached PASWA to make adjustments to school timings. Furthermore, with schools reopening after Holi, it’s likely that maximum parents will seek alterations to the schedule within the next week.”
Rajveer Singh, a parent, said, “Previously, school hours extended till 2 pm. However, following the parents’ requests to PASWA to change the timings, the school administration adjusted the schedule.”
