Kanpur News: Criminal gunned down in encounter, accomplice injured in UP’s Kannauj | Kanpur News – Times of India

Kanpur: In a major breakthrough, a criminal involved in the robbery and murder of a jeweller on January 5 in Gursahaiganj town of Kannauj was gunned down, while his accomplice was injured, in an encounter on Thursday morning. The deceased criminal has been identified as Izhar alias Jumman, while the injured criminal has been identified as Talib, from the Samdhan area of Kannauj.Shockingly, the fiancé of the deceased jeweller also committed suicide due to grief on January 9. Two police constables were also injured in the encounter. The injured constables, along with the injured criminal, have been admitted to the government hospital.
The encounter occurred at around 7:30 am when the two criminals involved in the robbery and murder were signaled to stop. However, they did not comply and instead tried to escape. When they were chased, they opened fire on the police. The police fired in self-defense, resulting in the death of one of the criminals and injuring the other. Two constables, Aman Singh and Vinay Kumar, posted at Gursahaiganj police station, sustained bullet wounds.
SP Amit Kumar Anand stated that the two assailants had shot dead Mohd Ayaz, a 32-year-old jeweller who owned a jewelry shop near Samdhan town of Kannauj. They had robbed gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 35 lakh while Ayaz was returning home after closing his shop on January 5 evening. The police have recovered 250 gm of gold, 500g of silver, Rs 4,30,000 in cash, and an Apache motorcycle used in the robbery incident.
