‘Karan Johar didn’t let me down, I let him down’, says Anurag Kashyap on Bombay Velvet completing 8 years Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Affection KashyapMost expensive flop ever Bombay Velvet was released on May 15, 2015. It was an expensive experiment, inspired by James Ellroy’s L.A. Quartet, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar (playing the villain) which proved disastrous for all concerned.
Looking back at the experience, Anurag says he should have made Bombay Velvet like his colleague Vikramaditya Motwane The OTT series has been made a jubilee. “I recently saw Jubilee and what Motwani did made me realize what I should have done in Bombay Velvet. Instead of being overwhelmed by the budget I was given for the film, I would have flourished if I had seen it as an ambitious 300 crore film that I had to make in 90 crores.
Kashyap feels that he would have been in control of the venture with a tighter budget. “It would have been a low-budget product at that price and I would have been on edge and made a many times stronger film.”
Comparing his Bombay Velvet to Motwane’s jubilee, Anurag Kashyap noted the lack of quality in his film. “It didn’t have the ambition that it should have had. I realized this after watching Motwani’s Ten Hours of Jubilee cost less, taking into account inflation.”
In Bombay Velvet, Karan Johar played the role of Parsi antagonist media baron Kaizad Khambatta.
Affection Standing by Karan’s casting. “Karan Johar, I still say he was a good choice. He didn’t let me down, I let him down.
