MANGALURU: A probe into the alleged assault on a 13-year-old madrasa student by bike-borne miscreants turned into a case of demanding behavior of the boy.
Surathkal police intensified their investigation after a student of Class VIII studying in a madrasa had claimed that he was attacked by bike-borne miscreants around 9.30 pm on Monday.
Mangaluru city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said the incident had created tension in Surathkal, Krishnapura, Hosabetttu and adjoining areas. However, during investigation it was proved that the boy had torn the shirt with his pen and the allegation of assault by two bike-borne miscreants was far from the truth.
“Given the incident very seriously, our officers conducted rapid investigation and collected evidence including circumstantial witnesses and checked the CCTV footage. Meanwhile, my team and I also interacted with the boy in the presence of child welfare committee representatives and a doctor. Actually, the boy is facing difficulties in learning and he is not able to concentrate on studies. He is facing difficulties due to lack of close friends in school. He also feels that he is being neglected in the class because of his fair skin and poor academic skills. Meanwhile, poverty at home also added to their woes and parents are also worried about their future,” the commissioner said.
He said the circumstantial evidence proved that the boy had torn his shirt with his pen. “We have assured the religious leaders and the management of the madrasa, where the child was pursuing religious studies, about the matter. We have explained them in detail as the incident had spread hate messages which could have led to communal tension,” he said.
