Karnataka Elections: Rahul Gandhi to set foot in Kolar, where he made Modi a surname remark

Rahul Gandhi is addressing a Congress program in Kolar, Karnataka, where he made the ‘Modi surname’ remark, which cost him the membership of the Lok Sabha.

According to Congress sources, Rahul Gandhi will reach Bengaluru and later go to Kolar, around 90 km from the IT city, where he will address a public meeting.

A huge stage with German pandals has been set up in Kolar’s Tamaka industrial area for Rahul Gandhi’s visit. Huge cutouts of Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi as well as Congress chief ministerial candidates Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar have been put up at the entrance of the venue.

A day before Rahul Gandhi’s arrival, senior Congress leaders DK Shivakumar, KH Muniyappa and others reached Kolar to oversee preparations for the ‘Jai Bharat’ event. The Congress is expecting around 1 to 1.5 lakh people to attend Rahul Gandhi’s program in Kolar.

Speaking about the ‘Jai Bharat’ rally, KPCC chief DK Shivakumar called it an opportunity for people across caste and party to extend their support to Rahul Gandhi.

He said, ‘We should save India, with this view Rahul Gandhi is coming here. He will share his words with the people of the same country where he had to face jail term and disqualification due to his remarks. Our party workers are ready for this event. There is an opportunity for people to support him irrespective of caste and party. The martyrdom, sacrifice and struggle of Congress leaders is the strength of the country in itself.

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address a rally in Kolar around 12 noon, following which the leader will proceed to Bengaluru, where he will interact with sanitation workers and street vendors in JP Nagar. The former AICC chief will also inaugurate the new ‘Indira Gandhi Bhavan’.

The Indira Gandhi Bhavan, which is being built behind the existing Congress office, includes an office and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 750 members.

Tight security arrangements have been made for the event with the deployment of over 1000 policemen, who will be supervised by three SPs, four additional SPs and seven deputy SPs.

The rally was to be held on April 5, days after Gandhi was disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha. Since then it has been postponed thrice. KPCC chief DK Shivakumar clarified that he postponed the rally to ensure that almost all the candidates for the upcoming assembly polls are finalized before Rahul Gandhi’s visit.
