Name of the Chief Minister of Karnataka: The Congress, which on Saturday (May 13) registered a landslide victory by defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka, now faces the challenge of deciding the chief minister as Siddaramaiah continues to be the frontrunner, followed by the state party president. DK Shivakumar.

Amid the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting in Bengaluru today (May 14), vigorous lobbying has begun between state Congress President DK Shivakumar and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and former CM Siddaramaiah for the chief minister’s post.

Party sources claimed that Siddaramaiah is the frontrunner for the chief minister’s post. A CM, a deputy CM and around 25 ministers will be sworn in during the swearing-in ceremony.

When will the CM candidate be announced?

According to sources, the name of the chief ministerial candidate will be announced in the next two-three days and the swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place on May 18 (Thursday).

Rotational Chief Minister in Karnataka:

Additionally, for the initial two years, Siddaramaiah will be the Chief Minister of the state and for the next three years, DK Shivakumar will take over as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

In the initial phase, Shivakumar will be allotted two important portfolios and he will be serving as the Deputy CM for the time being.

Appointment of Supervisors:

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday appointed three observers in Karnataka, including former Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and party leaders Jitendra Singh and Deepak Babaria, for the election of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in the state.

Here’s what the Vokkaliga saint said on Karnataka Chief Ministership:

In a major development, Vokkaliga seer Nirmalanandanath Swamiji held a meeting and indicated that Shivakumar was eligible to become the chief minister. The influential priest said Shivakumar had made efforts for the party and it should be duly recognised. He also said that the mutt and the community want him to be the chief minister and will support Shivakumar like they supported former PMs HD Deve Gowda, HD Kumaraswamy and SM Krishna.

Sources said the Siddaramaiah camp is also lobbying equally for the post and is making every effort to get the support of 100 MLAs. The Legislature Party meeting has a strategy to garner support of MLAs and later push with Ahinda groups. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s arrival in New Delhi and his statement that the high command will take a decision after the Legislature Party meeting indicates a tussle for the CM’s post.

Congress got 136 seats:

According to the Election Commission of India, the Congress won 136 seats, ousting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power in the only southern state ruled by it, and boosting its prospects for future electoral battles. BJP managed to win 65 seats. The Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) had won 19 seats.

What Rahul Gandhi Said after victory

Addressing reporters at the Congress headquarters in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi said on Saturday that the Congress stands in support of the poor. We fought the election with love.

“I would like to thank all the party leaders and workers in Karnataka. The market of hatred has closed in Karnataka, the shop of love is open.” We did not fight this battle with hatred or using wrong words. This victory will be replicated in other states,” said Rahul Gandhi.

Karnataka went to polls on May 10 for the 224-member state assembly and recorded a record 72.68 per cent voter turnout. A party needs 113 seats to win a majority.
