BJP had thought that they would attract Lingayat votes like a magnet but people turned it into a vote against corruption.

The tradition of Deve Gowda becoming or continuing to be the kingmaker of regional parties like JDS was completely destroyed.

The interesting statistic is that except Congress, no one got a clear majority here. In 1989, the Congress won 178 seats with a thumping majority. Then in 1994 it got 136 and in 1999 it got 132 seats. In 2013 also, Congress could get a clear majority with 122 seats.

If Karnataka goes by the means of victory, then Congress will have an upper hand in the elections of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. By upperhand it is meant that at least the Congress worker here will not remain in the ocean of despair. Although the effect of Lok Sabha and Vidhansabha elections is different, yet it seems that these results of Karnataka will surely pose a challenge to the BJP in the 2024 general elections.
