Kishore surrendered in the case of farmer leader’s murder

A 17-year-old juvenile surrendered before the Juvenile Justice Board in Tiruchi on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a farmers union leader near Manachanallur on Saturday.

60 year old K. Shanmugha Sundaram, who was living alone at his house in MR Palayam, was murdered by unknown persons late on Saturday night. He was actively involved in representing farmers’ issues with the district administration and reportedly campaigned to protect a piece of Panchami land at Sanamangalam near Manachanallur.

The Siruganur police had registered a case under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Three special teams were formed to identify and arrest the accused on the instructions of Tiruchi district Superintendent of Police Sujith Kumar.

Mr. Sujith Kumar said that a 17-year-old juvenile surrendered before the Juvenile Justice Board in Tiruchy. Based on his confession, the police also nabbed and are questioning six more people who were allegedly involved in the murder. Further action will be taken after a detailed probe, he added.
