Kolkata: Sector V car-free zone may be ready next month. Kolkata News – Times of India

Kolkata: The vehicle-free pedestrian plaza Road No. 25 from RDB Mall to Infinity Benchwork Sector V is about to be completed. It is likely to be inaugurated next month. Inspired by the Obelisk of the Washington Monument Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) is developing a 60 meter zone where cars and bikes will not be allowed to enter.

This part will have several obelisks made of steel and glass with dazzling lights, street artefacts and audio visual effects. Officials said there will be a hangout zone with a stage where cultural programs can be organised.
An official said, “The section has been completely revamped with street furniture and artefacts. It will have a town square look, as seen in many countries. The space will create a high-tech surreal ambience keeping in mind the crowd of technocrats in Sector V. The work will take about a week to complete. Officials will request Kolkata mayor and state municipal affairs and urban development minister Firhad Hakim to inaugurate the plaza.”

Officials removed the road surface and pavement and removed old street lights to build the plaza.
