Krfb Begins First Phase Tarring Of Smart Road | Thiruvananthapuram News – Times of India

Thiruvananthapuram: The first phase tarring of the Killipalam-Attakulangara road, which is being developed under the Smart City project has begun.
The Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB), the executing agency, said in a statement that the road formation works, ductworks, including the shifting of utilities underground, has also been completed. Although water logging and soil structure are challenging tasks, authorities are trying to complete the works at the earliest.Unlike other roads, this stretch needs to be developed with a proper drainage system, as it is prone to waterlogging during rains. This work is also in progress. It has been decided to make all roads navigable as soon as possible, KRFB said in the statement.
Earlier, PWD minister PA Mohamed Riyas said that the quality upgrade of various roads in the state capital will be completed on schedule. The work on 38 roads in the city is being completed under the aegis of KRFB. The contract for the road works was initially given to another agency. However, they were not able to complete the work on time, causing a huge crisis. Subsequently, the state govt intervened and excluded them from the project.
Last year, the state govt meticulously devised a comprehensive work calendar to ensure the prompt and efficient execution of the smart road development projects in the state capital as an integral part of the Smart City Mission initiative. The minister also conducts periodic reviews, conducting monthly meetings, while the PWD secretary will hold weekly reviews to guarantee timely project completion.
