Landslide due to heavy rains in Thane; water supply affected. Thane News – Times of India

Thane: Intermittent heavy rains lashed Thane city causing a landslide on a hill adjacent to a residential colony on Ghodbunder Road on Saturday afternoon, officials said.

Yasin Tadvi, in-charge of Regional Disaster Management Cell, Thane, said, “A huge pile of mud and rocks fell from a small hill adjacent to civilian residential quarters in Bhayandarpada around 3 pm. The debris partially blocked access to the residential colony, following which a team of civic workers cleared the road by evening, making it walkable. No one was injured in the incident.”
The city recorded an average rainfall of 24 mm till Saturday evening, with Naupada and Vartak Nagar areas receiving the maximum rainfall.

There was minimal impact on the inner city traffic, except for a few cases of water-logging in the suburbs and disruption of pedestrian and traffic movement due to falling trees, Tadvi said.
However, a major impact on outbound traffic was felt on Saturday morning due to heavy rains and re-emergence of potholes on major highways connecting the city.
Dr Vinay Rathod, DCP, Thane Traffic, said, “Traffic was stopped for some time on Ghodbunder Road after the Gaimukh area was water-logged. We allowed only heavy vehicles for some time, and when the water level receded, small vehicles were allowed to ply.”
Traffic on the Nashik Highway was also slow due to potholes ahead of Kharegaon, while Majiwada-bound traffic was affected for a few minutes early morning after a speeding truck met with an accident while alighting from the Teen Hath Naka flyover.
