Progressive farmer of Moodbiri and ‘Sons Farm’ fame LC Sons passed away on Wednesday. He was 89 and is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and brother IV Sons.

Mr. Sones was known for introducing exotic fruits to the coastal region about four decades ago.

They cultivated fruits such as jaboticaba (South America), rambutan, durian, langsat, Malay apple, egg fruit (South America), diesel tree (Amazon forest), abiyu (Australia), and macadamia nut.

A Fulbright Scholar, Mr. Sones received his Ph.D. in 1966 from the University of Montana. The farm owned by the Sones family at Beluvai in Moodbidri was originally used by the Swiss and German missionaries of the Basel Mission to use the hill land for horticulture development. 1926. L.C. Sones’ father, Alfred G. Sons was a leading horticulturist of undivided Dakshina Kannada.

LC Sones was the recipient of Dakshina Kannada Rajyotsava Award and Best Horticulturist Award by the Government of Karnataka. Mister. Sones was a member of the American Society of Dowsers and the British Society of Dowsers. He was also an advisor to Kadalakere Nisargadhama.
