Letter controversy: Corporation prays LSG ombudsman to dismiss complaint, says it is not legally tenable Thiruvananthapuram News – Times of India

Thiruvananthapuram: The civic body has requested the local self-government ombudsman to dismiss the complaint filed in connection with a letter allegedly written by the mayor Arya Rajendran To cpm District Secretary.

As per the complaint, Mayor Arya Rajendran violated his oath of office and misused his powers as mayor to issue a letter. Anvoor Nagappan, District Secretary, CPM in its official letter pad sought a priority list of candidates to be appointed by the civic body on the temporary posts created for the health centres. The complainant sought an inquiry into the matter and also sought an inquiry into all appointments made against temporary vacancies since Arya Rajendran took over as mayor.
The response filed by the Corporation Secretary to the Ombudsman states that the complaint is not legally tenable and hence it shall be dismissed by the Ombudsman. The Secretary in his letter has referred to relevant sections under the Municipalities Act relating to the part relating to investigation by Lokpal.
It states that the Lokpal will not investigate any matter in which a formal and public inquiry has been ordered by the government and any matter pending before a court. Corporation secretary cited case pending in High Court after petition filed by former Congress councilor GS Sreekumar and ongoing investigation by the Crime Branch.
In response to the allegations leveled in the complaint filed with the Ombudsman, the corporation secretary cites that there is no mention of the consent to the letter or the drafting of the letter in any of the official files of the municipal corporation.
The civic body has informed that in a council meeting, it was decided to recruit 32 doctors, 49 nurses and 29 pharmacists to make the health centers functional from 8 am to 8 pm. Accordingly, the ranklist was prepared by including 17 doctors, 16 staff nurses and 13 pharmacists who participated in the interview held from May 4 to May 10, 2022. Later four doctors, two staff nurses and a pharmacist told that they would not be able to take the exam. Due to the charge and insufficient number of candidates, the job notification was re-released on the newspapers and also published on the website.
