Light Rain in Palamu: Drop in Daytime Temperature due to Western Disturbances | Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi: Parts of Palamu, Garhwa and Latehar districts witnessed light rainfall and a drop in daytime temperatures on Tuesday as active western disturbances prevailing over the region resulted in heavy cloud covers which lasted till late in the evening.
Daltonganj received 1 mm raintill 5:30 pm while Garhwa residents experienced light drizzles in the morning.Heavy cloud cover pulled down daytime mercury levels by around three degrees. Mild clouds also hung over Ranchi’s skies on Tuesday morning and mild winds added to the chill factor.
Abhishek Anand, scientist at IMD Ranchi, said, “The indirect induced cyclonic circulation over western India, triggered by western disturbances, will have its effects in Jharkhand till Wednesday. This will bring rain and cloud cover in western and parts of central Jharkhand.”
Anand, however, said that a cyclonic circulation developing in Bay of Bengal near Andaman and Nicobar Islands is expected to change the wind pattern over the state and result in cloud cover in the next five days. “This would result in a rise in night-time temperatures and a dip in daytime mercury,” he said.
The daytime temperature in Ranchi hovered at 2.9 degrees Celsius.

Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (retd) from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) stated that the yellow alert is not expected to affect the ongoing rescue operations. The trapped workers inside the tunnel are experiencing comfortable temperatures, but overcast conditions may persist in certain areas of Uttarkashi district due to the impact of the western disturbance.
