Amid the ongoing border dispute between Maharashtra and Karnataka, Uddhav-led Shiv Sena faction leader Sanjay Raut on Wednesday made a controversial remark in which he suggested that Maharashtra would enter Karnataka like “China’s entry”.

His comment was clearly referring to the issue between India and China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), which recently boiled over again after a border skirmish between troops from both sides at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.

Maharashtra leader Sanjay Raut said he does not need anyone’s “permission” regarding the issue.

“Like China has entered, we will enter (Karnataka). We don’t need anyone’s permission. We want to solve it through discussion but the Chief Minister of Karnataka is stoking the fire. Shiv Sena’s firebrand leader Sanjay Raut said that Maharashtra has a weak government and it is not taking any stand on it.

Raut’s statement came at a time of heightened tension between Maharashtra and Karnataka over the decades-old border dispute and the matter is listed in the Supreme Court.

However, Eknath Shinde’s government is facing criticism over the issue and an uproar from the opposition in the ongoing winter session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.

Leader of the Opposition Ajit Pawar earlier raised the issue of border dispute in the Assembly and said, “A Lok Sabha member from Maharashtra has been stopped from entering Belgaum. In the meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, it was decided that no one would be stopped from going there, then how can the Collector there take such a decision?
