Five people have been arrested for allegedly thrashing and robbing two personal assistants of Lok Sabha MP Om Birla, a senior official in Rajasthan’s Kota said.

The assailants also robbed two PAs of Kota-Bundi MP of their mobile phones in the incident which took place late Wednesday night near Birla’s camp office in Shakti Nagar area here, police said.

At around 12.30 pm, Jeevandhar Jain, 43, and Raghvendra Singh were talking while standing near their car, barely a few meters from the office, when around 5-6 men rammed their bikes into them and threw them on the ground, Kishore Pura police station circle inspector Harlal Meena said.

The group then thrashed both the PAs and robbed them of their mobile phones, he said. The victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Kota Superintendent of Police Sharad Chowdhary and Kota Range IG Prashant Kumar Khamesra went to the spot to investigate the incident and ordered the formation of teams to nab the attackers.

Additional SP, Kota, Abhay Command and Control, Chandrasheel Thakur said that on the basis of CCTV footage they were identified and five of them were arrested from different places on Thursday morning.

Police have recovered the looted phones from them and have also recovered two bikes used in the crime.
