Samajwadi Party MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh attacked the husband of a BJP municipal election candidate in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi on Wednesday.

In the video shared on the Twitter handle of BJP Amethi, Rakesh along with his supporters are seen beating Deepak Singh, husband of BJP candidate Rashmi Singh, in Gauriganj police station premises.

The SP MLA said that while he was sitting on dharna, Deepak Singh reached the police station and abused him. He said that this made him lose his temper.

Rakesh Pratap Singh said that he is protesting because Deepak Singh and his supporters had assaulted some of his supporters, but the police did not take any action.

“I have called all senior police and district officials, but no action has been taken on the developments that led to the flare-up,” he said.

The video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Before the incident, Rakesh was seen threatening to kill with a pistol in front of the police. Meanwhile, Deepak reached the police station and Rakesh’s supporters surrounded him.

An official said that the issue has now been resolved and legal action will be taken against both the persons. Cases have been registered against them.

The second and final phase of the urban local body elections in UP will be held on May 11. The counting of votes will take place on May 13.
