Loyola School, Srikaryam, is no longer a bastion of men. But for the short time during its inception, the school never had any female students. All that changed when for the first time in its more than six decade long history, the school admitted girls in the new academic year. On Thursday, 120 girls joined the Higher Secondary wing of the school in ISC and CBSE streams, marking a new chapter in its history.

The freshers were warmly welcomed by the teachers and fellow students. Most of the girls are in CBSE stream.

Loyola established in 1961 in Srikarayam has a reputation as a premier boys’ school. Its alumni have reached the highest positions in various professions. To realize the idea of gender equality, the boys’ school took steps towards becoming a co-educational institution.

The school Praveholaswam was inaugurated by G Gopakumar, former Vice Chancellor of the Central University.

School Principals Fr. Salvin Augustine SJ and Fr. Roy Alex SJ and Sabu Maryanad, Vice-Principal of Loyola College were present.
