Ludhiana: A meeting of Vidhansabha committee The meeting was held on Monday to review the progress of the ongoing Rs 650 crore project to clean Budh Nala in Ludhiana.

The committee has been constituted by the state government to look into the issues related to Budha Nala and Ghaggar river.
Committee chairman MLA Grewal reviewed the progress of the project and directed the officials to expedite the works.
He said that regular meetings are being held at the state level to review the project and this was the first meeting in Ludhiana.
“Officials of PPCB were directed to conduct regular checks on dyeing industry and take strict action against units from where untreated waste is dumped into MC sewer lines. PPCB officials to conduct inspections and submit reports in this regard.” Dumping of untreated waste in sewer lines adds to the pollution in Budha Nala”.
He said that the committee would also conduct field inspections in the coming times to review the progress of the project.
The PPCB officials were also directed to regularly monitor the functioning of the three Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) set up to treat the effluents of the dyeing industry.
The MLA said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led state government was working to make the water bodies pollution-free.
He further appealed to the public to join hands with the officers in this campaign for the betterment of the generations to come.
He also urged people to stop using banned plastic items and stop throwing solid waste in the drain.
He urged the representatives of the dyeing industry to ensure that untreated waste is not dumped into the municipal sewer lines.
Being members of the committee, MLAs Madan Lal Bagga, Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, Ashok Parashar Pappi and Kulwant Singh Sidhu also attended the meeting and instructed the officials to expedite the project.
Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Dr. Shena Aggarwal, Additional Commissioner Aditya Duchalwal, officials from Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board (PWSSB) were also present in the meeting.
