Ven Meghangal is a poignant film centred on a 1960s alumni get-together, where the bittersweet reunion of two former school sweethearts unfolds against the backdrop of mourning a classmate’s accidental death. The narrative beautifully conveys the timeless nature of love, emphasising that it transcends both age and time. With the majority of the cast in their fifties, the movie emerges as a sophisticated piece of art tailored for an adult audience.

Karthika Kalyani, a former channel worker, takes on a leading role in the film alongside SD Venukumar, a media activist. Notably, the majority of the cast comprises individuals making their debut in front of the movie camera. Produced by Chengannur Chhaya, the unique aspect of Ven Meghangal lies in its cast and crew, all of whom are aged people.

M.B. Padmakumar, credited for the story, screenplay, and direction of the film, has also skillfully managed various technical aspects, including editing, sound mixing, and cinematography. The filming takes place in Chengannur and its surrounding areas. The lyrical contributions come from K. Rajagopal, with the music composed by Ravindran Thiruvalla and vocals by singer Maya Lakshmi.

Recently, M.B. Padmakumar shared the challenges he faced while creating a movie on homosexual love, citing his experience with My Life Partner in 2014. Despite praising the new Malayalam film Kaathal-The Core for exploring the same theme, Padmakumar revealed that theatres were reluctant to screen his film due to the absence of A-list actors. Furthermore, in some centres where My Life Partner was released, it was unexpectedly taken down and replaced with another film, Garbha Shriman.

Despite being eventually screened at a few multiplexes with minimal audience turnout, My Life Partner went on to win the State award for the second-best film, with Sudev Nair earning the best actor accolade that year. M.B. Padmakumar shared that the film’s producer, having faced numerous challenges, later sold its rights to an online channel, which was then divided and uploaded on YouTube.

Expressing joy on social media, Padmakumar celebrated the positive reception of Jeo Baby’s Kaathal, a film delving into same-sex romance. He also commended Mammootty for delivering an outstanding performance in the movie.
