Macron to confer top US general with France’s highest honor – Times of India

PARIS: United States Joint Chiefs Chairman General Mark Milley will receive France’s highest medal on Friday for his role in coordinating support for Ukraine and his more than 40-year military career spent defending democracy, the French president said. Emmanuel MacronOffice said.
Milley, who is traveling to France to attend ceremonies in Normandy to mark the 79th anniversary of D-Day, is nearing completion of a four-year term as the top US military officer and as chairman. He plans to retire at the end of his tenure on September 30.
Macron awarded him the Grand Cross of the troop Honored in a closed ceremony.
The medal was created by the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802. The award is given annually to approximately 2,000 citizens and approximately 300 foreigners for defending French values.
“The President of the French Republic will pay tribute to the strength and quality of the ties of military cooperation that unite our two countries, and to the key role played by General Milley in this regard,” Macron’s office said.
“It will be an opportunity for the President to discuss the many areas of close cooperation between our two countries, from the Sahel to the Levant, against the backdrop of Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine.”
Earlier this year, Macron awarded the Legion of Honor to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky For his country’s stand against the Russian invasion.
