The Forest Department has asked an engineer to prepare an estimate of the expenditure on the basis of the report. Raghuveer said, “During my eight-year-long experience, I have seen that the Forest Department has no expertise on fort conservation. Assistant Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Nandkishore Kupte said, “The conservation engineer has inspected based on the report. The estimated expenditure is expected this week and steps will be taken to start the restoration work.”
Deputy Conservator of Forests (Wildlife Division), Thane, Saroj Gawas handed over the logo to the officials of KBS and Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary (PWS) at a function organized on Saturday. The fort served as a watch tower for various rulers due to its height and all-round view. There are 19 water tanks within its boundary wall.
About one lakh people visit the fort every year. Wildfires, weeds, tree growth and landslides have damaged the fort. The bird sanctuary has 109 species of birds as per the last bird count done between 29 and 30 October.
The logo, designed by Mira Road resident Sanket More and Dombivli resident Sunit Mhatre, was selected from a competition organized by the Forest Department for KBS and PWS.
