Maharashtra: Devendra Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar meet CM Eknath Shinde in rain

Amid intense power struggle within the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) between rival factions led by Ajit Pawar and his uncle Sharad Pawar, former Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with former Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, reached ‘Varsha’, the official residence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. , in Mumbai for a meeting on Monday night.

On Thursday, Athawale met Ajit Pawar at his residence in Mumbai.

After the meeting, Athawale, who heads the Republican Party of India, commented on the merger of Ajit Pawar’s faction NCP with the National Democratic Alliance. alliance The (NDA) alliance said the development would further weaken the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).

After the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, Thackeray broke ties with long-time ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the contentious issue of sharing the chief minister’s post.

Subsequently, Thackeray formed the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, which included the Shiv Sena (before the split), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Indian National Congress.

However, in June 2022, a rebellion led by Eknath Shinde led to the fall of the MVA government and a split within the Shiv Sena. As a result, Shinde got the post of Chief Minister with the support of BJP.

On July 2 this year, Ajit Pawar split in the Sharad Pawar-led party and Shinde joined the government as Deputy Chief Minister. Besides this, eight other NCP leaders also took oath as ministers in the state cabinet.

Maharashtra has been witnessing intense political developments since the split in NCP.
