NAVI MUMBAI: Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil, who commenced a hunger strike on Friday, announced the conclusion of the protest, stating that the Maharashtra government has “accepted our request.”
Jarange broke his fast in the presence of chief minister Eknath Shinde.
Addressing a press conference on Friday night, Jarange expressed appreciation for the CM’s actions, declaring, “Chief minister Eknath Shinde has done a good job.Our protest is now over. Our request has been accepted. We will accept the letter from him.”

Referring to the demand for issuing Kunbi certificates to the 54 lakh individuals identified as Kunabi, Jarange mentioned that these certificates would be provided soon. He remarked, “54 lakh entries were found for our fight. They will be given the certificate soon.”
Earlier on Friday, Patil had warned the state government to issue a Government Resolution concerning the Maratha quota, emphasizing that protestors would march towards Mumbai on Saturday morning if their demands were not met. He also urged the Maharashtra government to withdraw all cases registered by the police regarding the demand for Maratha reservation.
Responding to the developments, Maharashtra minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha asserted that the recently passed ordinance provides a solution to all problems, rendering the ongoing protests unnecessary.

Maharashtra minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha declared that the ongoing movement in Maharashtra for Maratha reservation, led by Manoj Jarange Patil, has found a resolution. Lodha emphasized that the recently enacted ordinance addresses all the issues at hand. Manoj Jarange Patil, acknowledging the solution, announced the cessation of protests. Chief minister Eknath Shinde is scheduled to conclude Manoj Jarange Patil’s fast by offering him juice. Thus, the movement has successfully reached a resolution, as stated by Lodha on Friday.
On May 5, 2021, the Supreme Court invalidated reservations for the Maratha community in colleges, higher educational institutions, and jobs, citing a lack of valid grounds to breach the 50 per cent reservation limit while granting Maratha reservation.
