Maharashtra: Amid the unfolding NCP crisis in Maharashtra, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar on Saturday issued notices to 40 MLAs of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and 14 of the Uddhav Thackeray faction, seeking their response on disqualification petitions against them.

The development comes a day after Assembly Speaker Narvekar received a copy of Shiv Sena’s constitution from the Election Commission, informing that the hearing on disqualification petitions against 16 Shiv Sena MLAs, including CM Shinde, would begin soon. Earlier this week, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena approached the Supreme Court, seeking a direction to the Speaker to expeditiously hear disqualification petitions.

On May 11, the apex court ruled that Eknath Shinde would continue as the chief minister of Maharashtra. The court said it cannot restore the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government after the Shiv Sena leader decided to resign without facing a floor test in the wake of Shinde’s rebellion.

Meanwhile, the two camps continue to fight over the real NCP, with the exclusion and inclusion of the MLS.
