Maharashtra’s high ranking in NCRB report due to its population: Devendra Fadnavis | Nagpur News – Times of India

NAGPUR: Alleging attempts by the opposition to defame Maharashtra and divert investments coming to the state by citing NCRB statistics, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said the state was ranked high just because of its huge population and in reality, it was way below other states.
Replying to the last week resolution moved by the opposition benches on deteriorating law and order situation in the state, Fadnavis said the situation had improved ever since the Mahayuti government had taken over from last year in June from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
Flaying the opposition of not reading the NCRB report properly and trying to divert investments coming in big way in the state, Fadnavis said former home ministers – Anil Deshmukh and Jayant Patil should at least know about how to decipher its contents. He told them that Goa with 15 lakh population cannot be compared with Maharashtra’s 12 crore people.

No proposal for Vidarbha from the opposition:

Launching a counterattack against the opposition, which blamed the government for neglecting Vidarbha’ issues, Fadnavis said they had never tabled any resolution in this regard despite the fact the Congress state president and leader of opposition hailed from the region. “It is a worrying factor that the opposition has forgotten Vidarbha. The last week is for proposals to be presented by the opposition. But MPCC president Nana Patole encroached on the right of LOP Vijay Wadettiwar’s right to move the last week’s resolution. It shows that the LOP was being treated unfairly by the party. Women can move freely in Mumbai even at midnight, which is not possible in Delhi,” he said.

Goverment withdrew 324 cases of Maratha agitators

:
The deputy CM informed that they had withdrawn 324 cases out of 548 registered against them during the September-October agitation. Of them 286 are withdrawn from the court directly and 23 are pending for the court’s orders. While 10 cases are pending for non-payment for compensation, 47 do not fit into any criteria.

Strong action against drug cartels:

Quoting centre’s zero tolerance policy, the deputy CM said they had started a crackdown on the drug cartel and peddlers and put 24,000 accused behind bars. “During your time only 5,000 were arrested. Even drug mafia Lalit Patil’s first factory started under MVA rule in 2020. We have now started a Narco controlling centre ‘NCORD’. We have warned the police that they would be dismissed if their role is found in the drugs trade and have already dismissed four of them in Patil’s case. We are also taking action against online betting and gambling and sextortion, which is a new menace.”

Record no of 23K to be recruited into police force:

The Southwest Nagpur MLA said over 23,000 youths would be recruited into the police force which he claimed to be historic. “We have also boosted our facilities to provide them training. We are soon coming up with a new police framework which has not changed since 1976. The population has doubled since then and so are the challenges. The growing digitisation has thrown new challenges like cyber and financial crimes, which were not in existence in 1976. Cyber crimes have jumped by 44%. Now our Economic Offences Wing (EOW) is one of crucial departments. We have approved 187 new police stations, 46 new buildings for their housing and 305 service apartments for them.”

Maharashtra lags behind crime:

Quoting cases of other states like Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttarakhand and even Kerala, Fadnavis said if NCRB statistics were read in the context of population per lakh population, Maharashtra was far behind them. “It is at 12th position in crimes against women and 9th in kidnapping. In economic crimes, it is at 13th. In cases of riots, not all are communal. We book those indulged in petty clashes among four to five persons under riots. In 2020, 9,157 cases were registered which reduced to 8,218 in 2022-23. We have set up 87 special courts and 138 fast track courts are under progress.”

Maximum missing girls & women returning home:

The home minister said on an average over 4,000 girls and 64,000 women had gone missing from the state, but a majority of them had returned. “4,517 girls and 63,252 women went missing in 2020. Even during Covid year in 2021, 3,937 girls and 60,435 women went missing. In cases of missing girls, detection is on average 90%, while in case of women, it is at 86%.”

Oppposition target Nagpur even since I became CM:

Accusing the opposition for unnecessarily blaming Nagpur citing crime cases, Fadnavis said the city is completely safe and he said crime cases across all sectors witnessed a reduction. “In 2021, 95 murder cases were registered, which was reduced to 65 in 2022. In MVA tenure, Nagpur was second in the state for murders in 2021, which stands at seventh position in 2022. It was fifth in the crimes against women in 2021 and sixth in 2022 and in rape it slipped to sixth position from fourth. In Dowry cases, Nagpur registered only two incidents and was one of the lowest in India,” he said.
