Mahayuti LS seats’ deal likely today | Nagpur News – Times of India

Nagpur: Monday’s meeting between BJP top brass and its Mahayuti alliance partners (namely NCP and Shiv Sena) is likely to be the last meet before the seat-sharing formula is announced for the Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra.
BJP leaders from Vidarbha say their party should get a lion’s share in seats because they will sacrifice the CM’s chair for the assembly polls due later this year.
A BJP leader said, “Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar are negotiating hard, but they are looking at the short-term gain. Shinde could once again be the CM, so he must forfeit some LS seats.”
In 2019, the united Shiv Sena had won 18 Lok Sabha seats, of which three were from Vidarbha (Ramtek, Buldhana & Yavatmal). “This victory came due to PM Narendra Modi’s popularity and a united Sena. With the split, there is no guarantee they Shinde faction) can hold on to those seats,” said the BJP leader, adding the same yardstick is applicable for NCP (Ajit Pawar), which won 9 LS seats in 2019.
Besides, Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar are playing the victim card, which will affect the break away factions of two parties, he said.
BJP has been bargaining hard for Ramtek. This has led to speculations that sitting MP from Sena, Krupal Tumane, may join BJP, but Tumane has denied it.
A Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) leader from Ramtek told TOI that BJP is trying to arm-twist its alliance partners. “Firstly, there was no need for Ajit Pawar to be included in the alliance, and now BJP is trying to corner the Ramtek seat, which was won by Sena multiple times before,” said the Sena leader.
