Maidaan box office collection Day 6: Ajay Devgn’s sports drama fails to gain momentum; set to end Week 1 below Rs 30 crore | – Times of India

Despite high expectations, Ajay Devgn‘s latest outing, “Maidaan,” has struggled to find its footing at the box office, with collections projected to fall short of the Rs 30 crore mark by the end of its first week.
The sports drama got off to a lackluster start during its opening four-day weekend, managing to amass just Rs 19.4 crore, despite benefiting from the Eid holiday period.Even with the advantage of additional screenings from paid previews on Wednesday, the film failed to generate significant revenue, garnering only approximately Rs 2.60 crore. As the week progressed, “Maidaan” witnessed a substantial decline in ticket sales, earning a mere Rs 1.5 crore on regular working days. However, there was a slight uptick in collections on Tuesday, with earnings reaching around Rs 1.65 crore, bringing the film’s six-day total to an estimated Rs 25.15 crore.

Despite boasting a budget exceeding Rs 100 crore, “Maidaan” ranks among the lowest-performing Eid releases in recent memory. The film faced stiff competition at the box office from another Bollywood action flick, “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,” starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. However, even the latter struggled to make a significant impact, raking in approximately Rs 45 crore over the same six-day period.

For Ajay, “Maidaan” marks his second cinematic release of 2024, following the success of his earlier thriller, “Shaitaan,” which enjoyed robust box office returns earlier in the year. While the sports drama struggles to cross the Rs 50 crore threshold, “Shaitaan” is on track to surpass Rs 150 crore in domestic box office collections.
