‘Maidaan’ box office day 1 early report: The Ajay Devgn starrer faces tough competition from ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’; earns Rs 5 crore | – Times of India

Early reports for day 1 at the box office indicate tough competition for Ajay Devgn‘s film ‘Maidaan‘ from Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff‘s action-packed entertainer ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.’
Despite the Eid holiday, the film had a sluggish start at the box office, raking in approximately Rs 2.72 crore on its opening day, as reported by trade tracker Sacnilk.

Chronicling the life of Indian football legend Syed Abdul Rahim, ‘Maidaan’ received a significant boost on Wednesday with Rs 2.6 crore earnings from paid previews. This pushed its total domestic collection to Rs 5.32 crore. However, these figures are provisional, with final numbers for Day 1 slated for release at 10 pm.

Competing against ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,’ which also debuted on the same date, ‘Maidaan’ faced challenges in matching its rival’s triumph. Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s action entertainer reportedly amassed Rs 10.54 crore (early estimates) on day one, overshadowing Maidaan’s performance. Additionally, Maidaan’s collection falls short of Ajay’s previous release, ‘Shaitaan,’ which garnered Rs 14.75 crore on its opening day.

Despite its box office performance, ‘Maidaan’ has received acclaim from both critics and audiences. Esteemed writer Javed Akhtar praised Ajay Devgn’s portrayal in the film, describing it as a “must-watch” on social media. He commended the film’s depiction of a true story that brings pride to every Indian, highlighting certain national achievements often overlooked. Akhtar extended congratulations to producer Boney Kapoor, director Amit Sharma, and Ajay Devgn for delivering a remarkable performance.
