Varanasi: The Sonbhadra police on Wednesday arrested a person for killing a 25-year-old woman, Rita Kewat, of Semia village in Jugail police station area in Sonbhadra district.
The woman, wife of one Amresh Kewat, was found dead on a hill near her residence on March 25. Following investigation, the police succeeded in arresting accused Omprakash, a resident of Chaura Tola Bhitari.
Sharing details, Sonbhadra SP Yashvir Singh said during interrogation, the accused confessed to his crime and he has been booked under 302 (murder) of IPC.The accused had an affair with the woman and they had met on Mar 24 on the hill, where they got indulged in a fight over some issue. Later, he strangulated the woman to the death and fled the scene, the SP said.
In a separate incident, PRV personnel saved a woman from committing suicide in Sonbhadra on Tuesday. In quick response to a call on 112, a team of PRV reached the spot and saw a woman atop a tree with a rope tied around her neck. With swift action, the team rescued her, who alleged that she decided to take the extreme step as her husband beats her every day.
